Repeat offer + brand new birds

repeat offer + brand new birds

As a locally-based company, one of your greatest assets is word of mouth marketing. When someone enjoys experiencing your business, they’ll likely tell their neighbor, their coworkers, their friends, and perhaps their social media followers about you.

And while many companies benefit from WOM marketing, very few actually put a strategy around getting more of it.

Hummingbirds is all about getting new people to experience your offer and share it to their local network on social media, aka guaranteed WOM marketing. The added benefit of hummingbirds is they’re real people who see their real friends at the grocery store, out at happy hour, and on walks in the neighborhood where they can keep talking about their brand experience long after it happened.

One of our favorite ways to support small businesses is through driving new people to the same place with the same offer over and over again. Here’s a great example of Urban Air Ankeny, a campaign that ran multiple months with five new hummingbirds visiting and sharing every single month.

Another great example of where this works well: restaurants.

Restaurants tend to have the same offer β€” food & drinks. Sure, the menu may change or specials vary on a regular basis, but the overall experience is likely the same for every guest.

Restaurants that come to us typically set up a campaign with an offer their existing customers love or what truly sets them apart in the market. Ex: β€œcome try our happy hour any weekday and get a $50 gift card to use for anything on the happy hour menu.” If a restaurant has a killer happy hour and they want to keep getting the word out about it, they leverage our content creators to take photos & videos and share on social media.

It’s one thing to run a one-time campaign and get 30 birds to a restaurant in one month, and a completely different experience to β€œdrip” it out month over month. Making a splash makes sense for newer restaurants or grand openings, but companies love their results from leveraging WOM marketing month after month. It’s hard to beat getting new eyeballs on your business consistently β€” all driven by local people with a local network they can influence.
