Perks that create interest
perks that create interest
Setting up your first campaign with the hummingbirds and wondering what sort of perk to offer? You’re in the right place.
Instead of compensating hummingbirds with cash, businesses give them perks to participate in a campaign. From free pizza to music festival tickets to permanent bracelets, perks are what motivate hummingbirds to participate in a campaign.
5 perk considerations
1. Success Metric
Your success metric determines how to position your campaign, including what Hummingbirds to pick and what perk to choose. There are three main success metrics: customer acquisition, user-generated content, and reach and impressions. As you plan your perk, keep this end goal in mind and ask yourself if your perk will lead to the success metric that you chose.
2. Perk Value
No matter what perk you end up selecting, it’s important to understand that the value of the perk will motivate hummingbirds to express interest or ignore the campaign.
For example, if you offer a $10 gift card to try your coffee shop and want to see hummingbirds creating a Reel, Instagram Stories, and a Facebook post, they might feel like $10 isn’t as motivating as $50 or $100. You’ll likely still get interest with a lower perk value, but generosity with perks drives interest.
After activating over 300 campaigns, we’ve found $50+ is typically the sweet spot for perks. The higher the value, the more interest and higher level of content you will likely get.
3. Type of Perk
Trying to figure out what type of perk to offer? Consider your best sellers. What do current customers already rave about? If everyone is loving the breakfast tacos or the Friday morning spin classes, we highly suggest choosing those for your first campaign with the hummingbirds because you already have proven traction and success selling those.
When hummingbirds create content about something that’s already beloved locally, the chances of friends saying “oh my gosh I love those tacos too!” are high, which builds trust and gets you top of mind again.
You might have a new offer you want hummingbirds to try and share on social as well, which is a great opportunity to create initial buzz with local voices. In these instances where a new offer is being presented, we recommend ensuring you’ve shared it on social media, your website, etc. so when hummingbirds start creating content, it’s clear people can find more on your profiles or online presence. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect!
4. Perk Description
The perk description is an opportunity to articulate what makes this perk so awesome. What do others say about it? Is it an exclusive offering just for hummingbirds? How can you create some FOMO for the campaign? For example, are you the only fitness studio in town offering glow in the dark yoga classes? Are you the only coffee shop on the south side of your city that offers straight-outta-the-oven cinnamon rolls with locally sourced ingredients? Mention these things as selling points!
5. Capturing the Perk
As you think about your perk and overall experience, are hummingbirds set up to capture the perk well? Maybe there’s a mural outside your building you want to see hummingbirds photographing their frozen yogurt with. Perhaps for the month of September, you have an art installation you want captured in Instagram Stories after hummingbirds get a massage from your spa. How can hummingbirds capture content that sets you apart in the local community?
At the end of the day, the perk is your sales pitch! It’s your way of recruiting locals to try you out and rave about you to their local network. The more intention you put into the pitch, the more likely you are to attract hundreds, if not thousands, of interested birds who will create amazing content.
