Tips for sharing UGC on Instagram

tips for sharing UGC on instagram

Running a campaign with Hummingbirds means you’ll get a ton of fantastic user-generated content! Learn how to share their UGC on your brand's Instagram account.

Where to Find UGC for Your Campaign

You’ll be able to locate the UGC from your Hummingbirds in three ways:

In the Hummingbirds dashboard

Hummingbirds posts are now being pulled into the dashboard so you can see them all there! From the dashboard, you can click to the individual posts to share them.

Hummingbirds tag your business

While hummingbirds are not required to tag your businesses in their posts, many do! If they tag you in the image itself, the post will also appear in your Instagram account under ‘tagged posts’ (Icon of a person in a chat box).

Hummingbirds use your hashtags

We recommend that all brands have one or two hashtags for Hummingbirds to use in their posts. You’ll be able to search this hashtag to see posts, but more importantly, other people will be able to search and use the hashtag, too!

Get Permission

When a Hummingbird tags your business in a post, it usually grants you permission to share the content to your own Instagram story. (They can choose to disable this functionality in their settings). However, if you want to share a grid post to your business’ Instagram feed, we recommend that you ask their permission before doing so.

Asking permission is as easy as sending that person a DM (direct message). Tell them what you want to use their content for because they might be comfortable with some things but not others. Don’t forget to tell them that you want to use their content because you love it!

How to Share a Grid Post

Sharing a grid post to a grid post, also called ‘regramming,’ is not as easy as sharing a story to a story because it’s a manual process. Instead, we suggest sharing a grid post to a story and saving it as a highlight.

Depending on the hummingbirds’ privacy settings, you might be able to share their grid post to your story. Navigate to the post you want to share and click the paper airplane icon. On the bottom, you should see an option to ‘Add to Story.’ This will open up their grid post in a story draft where you can add text, stickers, etc. It’s always nice to add a little note like “Thanks for the recommendation!”

After the story is live, you can add it to a highlight so it lives in your Instagram account forever (or until you choose to remove it). There are two ways to do this:

  1. Click on your profile picture to view the story, then hit the heart with a loading circle around it that says ‘Highlight.’ You can select to add it to a current highlight or create a new one.

  2. Click on the highlight you want to add your story to, or hit “New” to create one. Select the story then hit “Done.”

Anyone who visits your account will then be able to view the content.

Sharing UGC takes time. When your campaign is live, we recommend checking the platform daily and sharing posts gradually as they come in. Don’t forget to share them internally, too, so everyone can enjoy the buzz that’s being generated for your brand!
